A Thankful Village is one in which no men or women were
lost in the Great War serving King and Country.
There are 56 villages in Rngland and Wales considered to
be Thankful Villages, with Stapleford being the only one
in Wiltshire.
It is uncertain just how many men left Stapleford and
returned safely, but research has identified the following:
Arthur Henry Charlton
William Frank Drake
Frederick Walter Pearce
Robert Pearce
Frank Victor Ransome
Stanley Ransome
Edward Elford Waterman
Frank Clifford West
George Whatley
