The Bonvalor Memorial Gardens This recreation ground was presented to the village on 5th August 1922 by Mrs Emily Bonvalot in memory of her son 2nd Lt. Edward St Laurent Bonvalot, Coldstream Guards, who died of wounds at the Battle of Loos, 1915. The sundial, which was the centrepiece of the original gardens was restored and repostioned by Downton Parish Council in 2003, following a suggestion and donation from the Downton millennium celebrations committee. this project was also funded by the friends of war memorials, Downton Parish Council and Downton Branch, the Royal British Legion.
