Erected by the parishioners of Mottistone. In loving memory of John Edward Guy Brown Lieut. Royal West Kent Regt. Killed in action near Zillebeeke 22 Feb 1915. Aged 22 years. Alexander Claud Garden Brown formerly Lieut. R.N. latterly Royal Air Force. Died of wounds 6th May 1918 received in aerial combat 3rd aMay 1918 near Perowne, France. Aged 27 years. Percy Downer Pte. 1st Hampshire Regt. Killed in action 8th Nov 1914 at Ypres. Aged 31 years. Leslie Frederick Downer Gunner 1st 5th Hants Royal Field Artillery. Died at Entille between 1st & 30th Sept. 1916 after being besieges at Kut. Age 20 years. who gave their lives for their Country in the Great War 1914-1919

And of his brother Alexr. Claud Garden Brown Lieutenant R.N. and R.A.F. who died 6th May 1918 of wounds recieved 3rd May 1918 in aerial combat near Peronne againdt enemy aeroplanes though mort- ally wounded himself he affected a landing thereby saving the life of his observer Born at Swindrigmuir 19th August 1890

In loving memory of Philip Entwisle Bury Born 16th October 1883 died 15th March 1912 Edmond William Bury Captain the King's Royal Rifles born 4th Nov. 1884 killed in action at Laventie in France 5th Dec. 1915 Harold Sterndale Entwisle Bury Lieut- enant Grenadier Guards born 20th Nov. 1888 killed in action at Cuinchy in France 25th January 1915
