Record of service of the men of Gillingham, Dorset in the Great War. 1914-18.
Also of the men who gave their lives in the war 1939-45

This war memorial was unveiled by General The Earl of Shaftsbury, K.P, K.C.V.O. Lord Lieutenant of Dorset on Thursday Nov. 18th 1920.

In Grateful Remembrance This Album is dedicated to the memory of the men of Gillingham, Dorset, who took part in the Great War 1914-1918 risking lifeand health for their loved ones at home, their King and Country and the peace of the World. Many were denied the joy of seeing the happy result of their sacrifice, many returned peermantly maimed and others were fortunate in sustaining no lasting injury. To provide a permenant record of the names of all those who gave their services in this noble cause, this album has been subscribed for by the inhabitants of Gillingham to be retained with the Parish Archives.
